We expect all our Scouts to be in a complete BSA uniform as outlined within the Troop 1717 By-laws. Troop 1717 considers the Boy Scout Handbook part of the uniform. We recommend a protective cover to care for and extend the useful life of your handbook. New Scouts are given a reasonable amount of time to ensure that all patches are sewn on properly (normally before they attain the rank of Tenderfoot as they will present themselves before the committee). Class A Uniform: consists of a the official BSA uniform. This includes shirt, Troop neckerchief, trousers, socks and proper footwear (no open toed shoes). The boy scout hat is optional. On special occasions, such as a Court of Honor, a crossover ceremony, an Eagle CoH, etc. the sash is worn. The sash is also worn for all Board's of Review [when a scout presents himself before the committee for his next rank advancement]. The Class A uniform is also worn for departure and return of all camping trips unless otherwise specified by the Scoutmaster in charge of the trip. If not in uniform, the Scoutmaster has the prerogative to not allow the scout to participate (this is especially important because the boys represent the "Boy Scouts of America" during these outings). Class B Uniform: consists of a Scout appropriate T-Shirt, BSA trousers, socks and proper foot gear. This uniform is typical on camping trips after arrival. The Class B uniform is also used during Troop meetings during the summer as designated by the Senior Patrol Leader. The Troop utilized two neckerchiefs. The red neckerchief is part of the official uniform. The yellow neckerchiefs are worn by all scout that have not attained the rank of Tenderfoot. The yellow neckerchief alerts the Boy Leadership and the Scoutmaster team that the scout could use a little extra help attaining the rank of Tenderfoot. Bolo badges and slides are not part of the approved uniform for Troop 1717. Scouts are encouraged to use the new BSA uniform. You can download a description of the uniform HERE The Troop maintains a Swap Shop of "experienced uniforms" for scouts interested. Likewise, all scouts are encouraged to contribute their seasoned uniforms once they outgrow them and need to be replaced. If interested, please contact Mr. Olson during one of our Troop meetings or any Scoutmaster. |
